The Chằn dance of the Khmer ethnic community in Vietnam.
The Chằn dance, also known as the "Giant Dance," is a traditional performance of the Khmer ethnic community in Vietnam. It is primarily showcased during the Ok Om Bok Festival and Lễ Dâng Y, or Kathina ceremony. This sacred dance is an essential part of Khmer cultural heritage. It is performed to honor Buddha and invoke blessings, prosperity, and protection from evil.
The dancers, dressed in vibrant costumes and elaborate masks that resemble mythical giants, enact scenes symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. The Chằn dance is characterized by its powerful, rhythmic movements and expressive gestures, which convey a story of strength, faith, and devotion. Traditional Khmer music enhances the mystical and spiritual atmosphere of the ceremony.
